Krasnoyarsk is a Russian city, the administrative center of the region (Krasnoyarsky Krai). The city is situated on the banks of the river Yenisei. It was founded by the voivode (governor) Andrei Dubensky in XVII century as a defensive bastion named "Krasny" (which means "Red"). In 1690 settlement Krasny Yar (which means "Red steep bank") got the status "City" and was named Krasnoyarsk. In first part of XIX century Krasnoyarsk became the capital of Yenisei province.
